Artist Statement

As a musician, I try to create music that I can receive a sense of accomplishment from. Although I very much want others to enjoy the work that I make, I am mostly making music that I can listen to and feel proud of for all the hours put into it. I have always considered music to be my favorite form of consumable media because of the way it triggers a variety of emotions within you. So far, my work has touched upon topics of social relationships I have had with certain individuals in my life. As I continue to make music, my vision, style, and ideas being displayed are changing and are constantly dynamic.

When my audience listens to my music, my primary hope is that they find it enjoyable or beautiful to experience. In the present moment, my work is heavily influenced by the indie rock genre and the various elements than encapsulate it. These elements are what I am stylistically into right now but could change in the future. My philosophy of making music is to begin with the instrumentals before I focus on meaning. I believe the sound is more important than the ideas being displayed through lyrics. This is why I begin with a chord progression and then expand upon it, leaving the words for last.

I have been playing music for many years but only attempting to make my own for a relatively short amount of time. I am considering my work presently to be part of a learning experience and I am honing differing skills that will allow me to share my art with the world. In doing so, I am paying homage to the array of artists I have been inspired by and I also to hope to do things that have some innovative qualities to them as well.

Although the art I create is different than the main focus of this course, I hope to be able to involve some of my own art into the work that I create in this class. I feel that this makes sense because music is a very important part of film.
